Mumbai: The Western Railway (WR) has officially called off its Diwali celebrations in Mumbai in honour of the 23 victims who succumbed to the stampede at the Elphinstone Road station on September 29.All WR offices, including the Churchgate building that is WR’s headquarters, will sport a sombre look when most of Mumbai will be celebrating Diwali come October 19.The WR usually sees these programmes held in Mumbai Central as well as at the staff quarters in Budhvaar Park at Colaba.” The official further added, “The fact is that we used that bridge when we were young officers, our kids use it to go to work, schools and colleges too. It’s just not something that we would like to be a part of.Another WR official said, “There will be no crackers burst in our offices. Officials have said that the cultural programmes that are usually held at Churchgate and Mumbai Central will be cancelled and the practice of lighting up the hallways of the offices during the festival has been called off. Mostly our staff does this and we don’t mind because it’s Diwali but this year we are going to keep it simple to a puja and go home with our families. Senior WR officials have told their staff that the offices in Mumbai Central especially, which house Mumbai division personnel, should not be extravagantly decorated like they usually are, during the festival every year.”The railways also has a cultural wing that normally organises programmes like songs, skits and a get-together to celebrate the festival of lights every year.”The WR officials also had to contend with a Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) rally held right outside their offices at Churchgate.. Most of us have been working non-stop since the tragedy and felt that the circumstances in the city are such that we cannot go ahead with the usual Diwali celebrations.A WR official said, “We realise that the city beehive led lights  is almost in shock since the stampede.

"Now we have evidence that this technology really can save lives and has the potential to prevent thousands of deaths once its on every vehicle," Cicchino said.Lane-keeping, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic braking systems, which can prevent rear-end crashes, are some of the building blocks of self-driving car technology."The vibrating is often more subtle than the beeping," she said.At the same time, research by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety raises concern that drivers may be less vigilant when relying on automated safety systems or become distracted by dashboard displays that monitor how the systems are performing. An institute study released in June found lane-keeping systems are turned off by drivers nearly half the time. If all passenger vehicles were equipped with the systems about 50,000 police-reported crashes a year could be prevented, the study found.Greg Brannon, the Automobile Association of Americas director of automotive engineering, called the institutes studies "encouraging.
The two institute studies found that lane-keeping systems, some of which even nudge the vehicle back into its lane for the driver, and blind-spot monitoring systems had lower crash rates than the same vehicles without the systems.Because there were only 40 fatal crashes in the data, researchers used a simpler analysis that didnt control for differences in drivers ages, genders, insurance risk and other factors for those crashes. Lane-keeping systems lowered rates of single-vehicle, sideswipe and head-on crashes of all severities by 11 percent, and crashes of those types in which there were injuries, by 21 percent, the study found. Drivers often find the beeping or buzzing warnings irritating.".Thats probably high, said Jessica Cicchino, the institutes vice president for research, but even if lane-keeping systems cut such crashes by half it would be significant, she said. They found the technology cut the fatal crash rate by 86 percent.Drivers using parking assist systems spent 46 percent of their time looking at the dashboard while approaching and selecting a parking spot compared to just 3 percent when not using the systems.
Cicchino said about a quarter of traffic fatalities involve a vehicle drifting into another lane.Drivers of vehicles equipped with blind-spot monitoring have also told researchers that they dont look behind them as often when changing lanes because they rely on the safety systems.A separate study by the insurance industry-funded institute and the Massachusetts Institute of Technologys AgeLab found that drivers using automated systems that scan for 4 tail light  parking spots and then park the car spend a lot more time looking at dashboard displays than at the parking spot, the road in front or the road behind.Automakers, taking note of the problem, appear to be switching to systems that vibrate the steering wheel or drivers seat, Cicchino said. While the safety systems are reducing crashes, "its still possible that there are some crashes that are happening that wouldnt have happened before because people are now behaving in different ways," Cicchino said.If all passenger vehicles had been equipped with lane departure warning systems in 2015, an estimated 85,000 police-reported crashes would have been prevented, the study found."
But he cautioned that is "critical that drivers understand the capabilities and, more importantly, the limitations of the safety technology in their vehicle before getting behind the wheel.A second institute study of blind-spot detection systems - usually warning lights in side mirrors - found the systems lower the rate of all lane-change crashes by 14 percent and the rate of such crashes with injuries by 23 percent."For all the promise technologies hold to enhance safety, researchers are also concerned that they are changing driver behavior. The lane-keeping study looked at police crash data from 25 states between 2009 and 2015 for vehicle models where the systems were sold as optional.Persuading drivers to use safety technology can also be a hurdle. "When a system beeps, its telling everybody in the car you did something wrong. That was true even when the systems were searching for a parking spot and drivers were still responsible for steering.Safety systems to prevent cars from drifting into another lane or that warn drivers of vehicles in their blind spots are beginning to live up to their potential to reduce crashes significantly, according to two studies released Wednesday.

This false picture is conveyed to those on devlok, God’s country. It was quite good in the matter of characterisations. It’s a good idea for a play and to write about God’s interference in everyday affairs of the world, but it must be done subtly and needs a stronger storyline. The play shows how society creates patterns of behaviour and how easy it is for individuals to fall victim to the expectations that the society creates.God Ki Delivery, a play written by Atul Satya Kaushik and presented by the Film And Theatre Society, is about the delivery of God in the form of Krishna on stage. First we enter devlok, where the gods are discussing the state of affairs in the world and whether it would require the presence of God. Rajendran to conduct theatre workshops for a month in the summer. They include those who are very comfortable witht their sexuality, those nursing broken hearts and their insecurities and also those that are yet to publically “come out” as gay. She talks about the corruption and unkindness in the hospital where she probably goes. The characters, mostly homosexual, collect together in a friend’s apartment in Mumbai. It is decided that God should go and only his presence would help the world come out of darkness. A supposed doctor comes in and he examines one of the patients and berates the nurse for leaving these two women on the floor. The play had a lot of sloganeering and it was almost as if it was commissioned by the present government. The play about the delivery of God onstage is about the necessity of God in a corrupt society. Besides this, there is another friendly couple living next door, who are also expecting a baby. They go together to the hospital where they lie down on the floor as a man comes up to them to ask that if they need a bed and they would have to pay for it if they did. They can hear the sister screaming at someone inside, one of the patients probably, and are scared stiff.Next, we see them lying on a bed comfortably with the man who took the money and the sister being very kind and generous with their time with them.S. The characters came up very well in the play, though the speech was not very good, in the sense they tried to dramatise the speech making it sound very odd, coming as it did from their mouths. On Earth, the situation is like this in the villages: There is a woman who is expecting a child, is not happy with the fact that a child will be born to her. God in the meantime is delivered and becomes a young man.A group of theatre enthusiasts came to K. It is the presence of God among people as an incarnation of the Supreme Being. As a part of this festival, Mahesh Datani’s On a Muggy Night in Mumbai, directed by Rajendran, was presented. The scenic design and lights were effective. He comes to the village  led marine interior lights to find out the truth about this woman. He finds that they are very comfortable and there is no evidence of any misdemeanour on part of the hospital. They give some money, he pockets it and disappeared. The group organised a festival of eight plays at the Sri Ram Centre, and called it the Summer Theatre Festival from June 23 to June 30.. A wrong impression of the world is created up there and God is satisfied that all is well with the world.
